In an interview with The New York Times on Friday (17/12), Pascal admitted that she had given the warning to Holland and Zendaya before the filming of Spider-Man: Homecoming began.
“I took Tom and Zendaya aside, separately, when we first cast them and gave them a lecture, ‘Don’t go there — just don’t. Try not to,’” she said, as reported by Page Six.
“I gave the same advice to Andrew [Garfield] and Emma [Stone]. It can just complicate things, you know? And they all ignored me,” Pascal added.
It turns out that Tobey Maguire—who played Peter Parker in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy—was the first one who had a romantic relationship with his co-star, Kirsten Dunst, in the franchise. This made director Sam Raimi concerned that their romantic relationship would affect the chemistry they had on screen.
“I actually had some worries about that. They apparently began dating with each other, I think, in the middle of the first movie … although I didn’t know it at the time,” Raimi said after the release of Spider-Man 3 in 2007. “They eventually broke up before the second movie. I was concerned they wouldn’t get the same chemistry back, but it was just me worrying.”
Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone also fell in love with each other while filming The Amazing Spider-Man. However, their relationship foundered a year after the sequel to the film released.
And now, Tom Holland and Zendaya followed in their footsteps, getting caught kissing in a car in July 2021.
Holland later talked about his relationship with Zendaya during an interview with GQ.
“One of the downsides of our fame is that privacy isn’t really in our control anymore, and a moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world,” said the handsome actor.
“I’ve always been really adamant to keep my private life private, because I share so much of my life with the world anyway … we sort of felt robbed of our privacy.”
